Sir Geoffrey Thomas Phipps Hornby. Admiral of the Fleet Sir Geoffrey Thomas Phipps Hornby GCB (10 February 1825 – 3 March 1895), was a British naval officer. In 1871 he appointed to command the Channel Fleet and in 1874 he was made Second Naval Lord. It was early in 1877 that he was appointed Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean Fleet, where his skill in maneuvering the fleet, his power as a disciplinarian, and the tact and determination with which he conducted the foreign relations at the time of the Russian advance on Constantinople, won for him the distinction of Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. He returned home in 1880 with the character of being perhaps the most able commander on the active list of the navy. The piece is 14x18 placed in a 17x21 horizontal cherry wooden frame with 1 inch in depth with glass. Tru Vue Conservation Grade 99% UV protection glass was used on this piece to protect the autograph and photo. A 4x5 letter hand written by Sir Geoffrey Thomas Phipps in black ink, is centered on the right side of the frame in a brown mat with black borders. The piece also includes a 1½ x3 autograph of Sir Geoffrey Thomas Phipps Hornby centered on the left side of the frame; a black and white photo of Hornby is placed above the autograph. A gold colored name plate is centered on the bottom of the mat with the engraving in black letters "Sir Geoffrey Thomas Phipps Hornby British Naval Officer from 1837-1895"The certificate of authenticity (COA) is from Signedthings, is enclosed in an envelope and attached on the back of the frame. It includes a horizontal frame holder attached to the back. The piece weighs 6 pounds.
